Why do we use Yoga stretches?
After our HIIT ( High Intensity Interval Training) session, we start with our cool down. This is comprised of stretches where we incorporate Yoga poses. We spend around 10 minutes stretching. The focus of the stretching is on the muscles that were used in that particular workout.
As an example: if a particular workout contains only (or mostly) kettlebell exercises, then we include lower back stretches to assist with recovery. Similarly, if we incorporate lunges and squats into a workout, then the focus is on stretching out the quads and hamstrings.
Why is stretching important?
Regular and correct stretching keeps muscles long, lean and flexible, helping them to relax, and minimize
pain by reducing the accumulation of lactic acid throughout the body and thereby lowering the risk
of injury. Healthy muscles help with balancing and precision movement making you less likely to fall or injure yourself.
What does a cool-down look like?
During the cool-down session, we bring the heart rate back to a normal level.
Finally, we include a few minutes of guided meditation – apparently, this is everyone’s favourite part
of the class – when I stop talking and relaxation sets in – getting you in the right frame of mind to
face the challenges of the day…
